Board Advisor and Skills and Education Champion
Nick Bone is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and experienced board and executive leader with more than 30 years’ experience across energy, manufacturing and critical infrastructure across 3 contintents. Nick has held senior roles including Chair and Director of ExxonMobil Chemical Ltd, Director of Esso Petroleum Company Ltd and Esso UK Ltd, Vice President of Fuels Industry UK, and Managing Director of the ExxonMobil Fawley Refinery and Petrochemical Complex. He was Operations Director where he led transformation of Joint Venture operations between ExxonMobil and Sabic in Saudi Arabia. His career has spanned operations, commercial, supply chain, safety and transformation roles across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. He brings practical experience of leading the UK’s largest integrated refining and petrochemical site, overseeing major capital investment programmes, engaging with government and regulators, and strengthening organisational capability, risk management and asset performance. His work has included board oversight of a £1bn refinery transformation programme that significantly reduced UK diesel import dependency, as well as leadership of global safety, culture and operational improvement initiatives. Nick is passionate about maintaining and developing skills across our manufacturing industries in the UK. He championed the development of process operations and process safety leadership training and development in ExxonMobil at a site, regional and global level. He is a member of Salters Company where he supports engagement with schools and Universities around Chemistry and Chemical Engineering education. Supporting opportunities for school children to experience practical application of chemistry. He sits on the Industry Advisory Panel of Southampton University Chemical Engineering Department. Nick holds an MBA from The Open University and a BEng(Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and a Member of the Institute of Directors.
