Andrew Jones

Head of Research

Andrew joined Cogent Skills in December 2023 as Head of Research, where he leads labour market intelligence, insights, data visualisation and evaluation across the organisation. Andrew is passionate about the puzzle-solving aspect of research—spotting patterns, opening up understanding to all audiences, and providing actionable recommendations for positive change.

Since joining Cogent Skills, Andrew has led several landmark research projects that are shaping skills strategies across key sectors. He leads the Nuclear Workforce Assessment and heads the Midlands Nuclear Study, providing critical intelligence on workforce needs in the nuclear sector. Andrew also led the Life Sciences 2035 project, identifying critical skills and demand in the life sciences sector, and directs the Future Energy Skills Hub project. His work is particularly focused on understanding the transition between traditional science-based industries and clean energy across the UK.

Before joining Cogent Skills, Andrew worked as an academic at the University of Leicester, the University of Exeter, and University College London, before moving into several research think tanks. He holds a PhD in Behavioural Science. Andrew supports Cogent-led collaborations across science industries, nuclear, clean growth and energy transition areas.

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys the gym, hiking and trying to keep up with his two young children.
