Joe Howe

Academic Lead for the Humber Industrial Cluster

Joe’s background is in geography, spatial planning, environmental engineering and science. He has extensive experience of working interchangeably with industry on major environmental projects and initiatives across the UK and overseas. His work is driven by the opportunities afforded by industrial decarbonisation relating to innovation, skills and supply chain competence.
Joe currently holds several external Non-Exec Trustee roles including the UK Engineering Construction Industry Training Board and Cogent Skills. He is a member of the UK Hydrogen Advisory Council Supply Chain Capacity and Research and Innovation Working Groups, a member of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association skills working group and an advisory board member of the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Consortium.

Currently Joe is overseeing several UKRI grants related to industrial decarbonisation including a project on workforce planning requirements for the industrial clusters and he is a co-investigator on the UK Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre.

Following COP 26, Joe was appointed Chair of the Mission Innovation Hydrogen Production group. He has been the academic lead on several international trade missions on energy security, most recently to Brazil and Chile.
