Laboratory Scientist degree apprenticeship (Purification Development) – Lonza

Main Description

To support Purification Development scientific personnel with the preparation, set-up operation and running of the small-scale chromatography based purification systems. This is a lab based position that requires equipment maintenance, buffer and reagent preparation and sample tracking.

Qualifications requirement 5 GCSE Grade 9-4 including Maths, English and Science
You must have gained a minimum of 80 UCAS points from a minimum of 2 A-level subjects including Biology (or equivalent, e.g. BTEC) and an additional Science or Maths.
Salary £20400

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • To work positively as part of a dedicated Purification Development  execution team following processes in the execution of daily tasks in operating lab equipment.
  • To complete experimental tasks to a high quality standard as directed by the allocated senior scientist.
  • To perform sample receipt and storage.
  • To prepare of media and buffer solutions via written process documentation prepared in collaboration with internal team members. 
  • To follow that all data is accurately recorded.
  • To support the lab areas through inventory management of consumable and raw materials and ensuring correct standards of cleanliness and maintenance of equipment in lab areas.
  • To set up and operate of small-scale chromatography based purification systems. Execution of standard chromatography experiments.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

  • Fluent English
  • A range of simple laboratory skills
  • Applies experience and common sense working to team activities assigned with a good understanding or safety requirements within a laboratory environment.
  • Proficient with standard software
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to work within a functional team. Able to effectively communicate through verbal and written communication across the team
  • Has good attention to detail, self-motivated with a positive attitude and a desire to develop and learn technically.
  • Developing an understanding of how the assigned duties contribute to the work of the team

Training provider: University of Kent

Qualification: BSc (Hons) Applied Science Biology

Delivery model: Blended learning – combines remote online learning and 2 face to face block release residential workshops delivered at University of Kent
