We were pleased to read the government position on Level 3 qualifications from Skills Minister, Baroness Smith, last week, indicating that while there is a place in the post-16 FE market for T Levels, they recognise the need to retain other qualifications.
Cogent Skills has long made the case for BTECs as an important route into industry for many young people. While we support T Levels and some employers have begun to embrace them, they are not as well established as BTECs and are yet meeting employers’ needs – as such we believe both have their place as options for learners.
We look forward to seeing the results of the government’s review and stand ready to support ministers in this process.
