The 2026 Carbon Capture Skills Framework is designed to help employers build the workforce needed to deliver the UK’s carbon capture ambitions. As an open‑source resource, the framework will support the development of industry‑recognised qualifications and quality‑assured training programmes that reflect the evolving requirements of CCUS technologies and operations.
Developed with industry, regulators and technical experts, the framework provides a clear benchmark for CCUS skills development. It identifies career pathways, clarifies occupational expectations and promotes consistency across training provision. By setting out the capabilities required across capture, transport, utilisation and storage, the framework strengthens confidence in training quality and supports long‑term workforce planning.
This framework represents a significant step in tackling the sector’s skills challenges. The Hydrogen Skills Alliance (HSA) will work with employers and skills bodies to ensure coverage of roles across the CCUS value chain, including plant operations, subsurface monitoring, pipeline integrity, safety management and project delivery.
