Help us shape the national curriculum

Cogent Skills is preparing a response to the Department of Education’s Curriculum and Assessment Review, which has been commissioned to review the national curriculum and statutory assessment system in England, including qualification pathways.

The review is considering how to refresh curriculum and assessment frameworks to ensure they are fit for the future, in a rapidly changing world – with special attention given to supporting children and young people who are from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, those with a special educational need or disability (SEND) and those who are otherwise vulnerable.

We would like to hear the views of both employers and younger people who can share their experiences. Key topics of discussion will include:

  • critical knowledge and skills requirements for our industries
  • the importance of maths, English and soft skills in the workplace.
  • careers advice/development in the education system
  • T Levels, BTECs and their place in further education
  • employability skills in the 2020s and beyond.

We will host two roundtables focused on the employer voice. For these sessions, we would like to hear from anyone who can share experiences of employing staff across a variety of ages and levels (16-18 – GCSE school leaver classification, 18-21 – T Level/A Level/BTEC classification, 21+ graduates and non-graduates) and can get contribute in the discussion topics.

For the youth voice component, we would like to hear from people who can share experiences of their school curriculum, assessment practice and careers advice/development. The sessions will be recorded and more information will sent out in advance. To register for the events, click below.
