Earlier this year, Cogent Skills was recognised as one of the UK’s top employers when it was named among The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024.
The scheme celebrates employers who score highly in a number of areas, including happiness, pride and wellbeing among their employees.
The scheme analysed 50,000 organisations globally and only recognises those with the highest ratings. Cogent was named as one of the best medium-sized employers in the country and scored highly across the full range of metrics.
This included 94 per cent of employees saying they felt pride at being a member of Cogent Skills staff, 91 per cent said were confident in the organisation’s management, and 95 per cent believe the company cared for their wellbeing.
The decision to apply was taken jointly by Chief Executive Officer, Justine Fosh, and People and Culture Director, Angela Webster, with the ambition of recognising the contribution Cogent staff had made to fostering a supportive workplace as well as attracting new talent to the business.
Following the win, Cogent has strengthened its commitment to being an exemplary workplace and is aiming to be named as one of the Best Places to Work in 2025.
Cogent Skills’ People and Culture Director, Angela Webster, said: “Being named one of the UK’s Best Places to Work has been an ambition of mine and our CEO Justine Fosh’s for some time. After a terrific year for the group, we felt the time was right to apply to this prestigious scheme.
“This recognition reflects that we strive to keep doing more for our employees each year. Our business is becoming busier than ever – which is all down to our brilliant people. This only underlines how important it is to keep listening to our colleagues and understand what matters to them.
“In terms of our recruitment, ever since the award was announced, every candidate I’ve spoken to has mentioned it and how it makes them even more keen to work for Cogent Skills. For me, that external recognition is just as important because attracting and retaining talent is the foundation of Cogent’s future.”
Nuclear Project Communications Manager, Hannah Whitehouse, said: “When I was on the hunt for a new role, one of the most important thing I looked for in my next employer was that they put in to practice their values and looked after their employees.
“After seeing the Sunday Time Best Place to Work award on Cogent’s social media, it cemented my decision to want to work for them and it was also a deciding factor between two roles I had been offered at the time.”
