The qualification is backed by the industry-lead Process Safety Management Competence Programme Board (PSMCPB) and accredited by SIAS (the leading awarding organisation for STEM). It is designed to support delegates and employers to understand the principles of Process Safety Management and how they apply to their organisation.
The addition of this new qualification provides an additional level of assurance for employers in industries where process safety is critical and where training needs to be in the form of a qualification. To receive this qualification, you must take undertake an additional summative assessment which is externally quality assured by SIAS. This enables Ofqual regulation and ensures validity, reliability, manageability and transferability across industry. The PSMO in-house course has been designed to provide essential process safety training to the industry standard to your employees. It is delivered by a Cogent Assured Training Provider who is an expert in Process Safety.
Before starting the PSM training, the companies focus was on the shift from personal safety to process safety. Following the training we have improved our process safety culture and performance through enhancing personal safety with process safety. In this course, participants will focus on site specific hazards and control measures
and how they apply to them, and demonstrate how they contribute to keeping the site safe.
This course has been specifically designed to provide your operators, maintenance technicians and long-term contractors with a clear understanding of the principles of process safety in the context of the site they work on.
A Cogent Assured Training Provider will deliver PSMO on your site or at a location chosen by you. Ahead of the training, a site visit is carried out by the delivery partner to establish an understanding of your major accident hazards and risks.
They will consult with you to contextualise the PSMO training content to bring the process safety message closer to home, and raise awareness to emphasise how your personnel make an essential contribution to the safe management of the major accident hazards on your site.
The training then takes place over a two-day period with a maximum of 12 delegates per course. Certification is awarded after the successful completion of the online assessment. All delegates will be given exclusive access to a suite of video case studies designed to reinforce the learning for up to three years.

The number of contextualisation days required would be determined after consultation with an Account Manager – this is usually one day but depends on the size and complexities of the site.
