Apprenticeships Explained

Whether you are already an apprenticeship employer or are completely new to apprenticeships, we are here to help.
Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes that combine on-the-job training with additional study. This means apprenticeship programmes are ideal to develop the skills of new or existing employees, ensuring they have the knowledge and hands-on experience to thrive in a specific role and career.
We can offer support through the entire apprenticeship journey from recruitment and employment to training and assessment. With over a decade of experience, we support some of the worlds leading science and technology companies, to ensure their workforce is future ready.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are open to people over 16, and can be used to develop existing staff or attract new talent. Apprenticeships are created by employer-led ‘trailblazer’ groups, ensuring apprentices gain the most relevant knowledge and skills for their role.

There is a huge range of apprenticeships available for every job role and industry.

Financing an Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships in England are paid for either by the apprenticeship levy, or through the process of 'co-investment'. Companies with a payroll of more than £3 million will pay apprenticeship levy. These levy contributions then appear in a digital account, which can be used by the employer to arrange and pay for apprenticeship training. Companies who do not pay levy pay 5% of the apprenticeship cost, with the government covering 95% through 'co-investment'.

Guidelines & Expectations

As an employer, you’re expected to follow the standard guidelines as set out by the National Apprenticeship Service. These rules were implemented to make sure that the training quality of modern apprenticeships is consistent, balanced and that apprentices are treated fairly.

The apprenticeship guidelines relate to upholding an apprentice’s pay, ensuring a healthy work/training split to give adequate time for training to be complete, the guarantee of a real job and an expectation to provide a mentor to support the apprentice through their program.
