Cogent shares science employers’ views on proposed Advanced British Standard

Cogent Skills has submitted a formal response to the Department for Education’s consultation on the proposed Advanced British Standard, on behalf of members of the Science Industry Partnership (SIP) and trade associations.

The response follows a series of in-depth discussions and a webinar for key stakeholders held in February.

We agree in principle to some of the outline proposal – including the fact Level 2 students are being considered as well as those at Level 3 – but we have raised concerns about the mandatory nature of English and maths to 18 and the ongoing summative assessment strategy.

We’re committed to supporting industry and ensuring the voice of the science sector is heard by ministers. We are extremely grateful to all stakeholders gave us their insights and perspectives and we await the outcome of the consultation and the publication of the government’s white paper later in the year.
