Apprenticeship Achievement Data Released

The latest release of Qualification Achievement Rate data for Apprenticeships during the 2023/ 24 academic year is now available. The release is accompanied by a letter from Secretary of State for Skills, Baroness Jacqui Smith, announcing the increase in overall achievements from 54.3% in 2022/23 academic year to 60.5%, as the ‘biggest increase since standards were introduced’.

Cogent Skills welcomes this increase across all standards and to report that the life and chemical science standards we support continue to see higher achievement rates than the national average. Notably, the Science Manufacturing Technician standard achieved a 77.1% success rate, the Science Manufacturing Process Operator reached 84.6%, and Laboratory Technician finished the year at 70.3%. The nuclear standards we support also continue to demonstrate strong achievement rates, with both the Nuclear Operative and Nuclear Scientist/Nuclear Engineer standards achieving over 90%.

Rachel Roby, Technical Education and Standards Lead for Cogent Skills says:

It is encouraging to see today’s national average for apprenticeship achievements increase, showing the positive impacts apprenticeships are making on people across the country. Cogent has a long history of supporting apprenticeship standards across science and nuclear, so it is fantastic to see the strong retention and achievement rates across the standards we support. We are committed to supporting employers, apprentices and providers to ensure the standards are fit for purpose and high-quality to build and grow the force our sectors need for the future.

Cogent Skills supports the development of apprenticeship standards from Level 2 to Level 7 across the science and nuclear sector, from operators and technicians to postgraduate-level scientists. This work continues as the standards evolve to reflect the changing needs of industry, ensuring apprenticeship standards remain relevant for future entrants. These standards have supported more than 11,000 apprentices.
