Cogent Skills’ apprenticeship training division has become the first registered training provider to offer a Battery Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship.
Electrification and electric vehicle battery manufacturing is set to play a crucial role in this decarbonisation across a range of sectors, as the UK seeks to reach net zero by 2050.
For example, the latest data shows there are more than 1.2 million fully electric cars on the UK’s roads, around 3.5 per cent of the total – up from just over 200,000 (or 0.6 per cent) at the end of 2020. All of this underlines the huge scope for growth in the market.
Cogent Skills’ Managing Director of Apprenticeship Delivery, James McIntosh, said:
“We’re really pleased to launch this brand-new apprenticeship standard. Cogent Skills has an important remit to respond to our sector’s skills needs, including driving forward the transition to net zero. “To be the first provider offering this apprenticeship is something we’re really proud of. We’ll be engaging with a wide range of employers to help them bring new talent into the industry and upskill their existing workforce.”
