The research scientist from Fujifilm Biotechnologies has dedicated significant time and energy to STEM initiatives which aim to attract the next generation of talent to the sector.
Judges were extremely impressed by his passion for inspiring young people, particularly how he shows them that careers in STEM are open to everyone, regardless of their background.
They also remarked that Harry recognised the importance of "individualising' the approach to STEM career outreach, not to mention his creativity in finding different hooks for a wide range of young people. They said "Harry's passion shone through and was very contagious".
The range of initiatives Harry has worked on include engaging with a students ranging from year 7 to graduates to show them the reality of working in a science-based industry, as well as visiting schools and universities around the north east and the midlands to engage young people who are thinking about taking the first steps in their careers.
