What does your role involve?

I’m responsible for engaging with new businesses and introducing them to our apprenticeship programmes. I provide tailored advice and support to employers, helping them explore how our apprenticeship offer can benefit their organisation – whether by recruiting new talent or upskilling existing staff. A key aspect of my this is promoting the Cogent Skills brand and highlighting our strengths across the apprenticeships landscape. I also represent Cogent at industry and networking events, where I connect directly with employers to discuss the comprehensive support we offer.

What does a typical day look like?

A typical day involves proactively looking for new business opportunities, researching our core industries, and developing new connections to build lasting relationships. This includes meetings and discussions with employers, site visits, and so on.

What has been your most enjoyable experience at Cogent Skills?

Getting to know everyone at Cogent and what their roles involve, I have found everyone to be so supportive and helpful. The working environment is relaxed, friendly and inclusive. I’ve been made to feel very welcome and I’m excited to learn more from my colleagues.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Knowing where I want to start in terms of building up apprenticeship business, as a national provider, we have extensive scope to grow our apprenticeship business. To ensure a strategic and sustainable approach, I’m planning to focus on developing one key area at a time – establishing a strong presence before expanding into new regions and sectors.

What are you looking forward to working on in the year ahead?

I’m looking forward to connecting with new employers and gaining deeper insights into their businesses and industries. It’s great to be part of such a dynamic team, focused on raising our profile with companies we can support. I’m also enthusiastic about attending events and building valuable new relationships across the sector.

What did you do before you joined Cogent Skills?

Prior to joining Cogent, I was an Apprenticeship Manager for a training provider specialising in engineering and manufacturing. In that role, I was responsible for managing the full apprenticeship lifecycle – from business development and apprentice recruitment to the ongoing support and relationship management of both apprentices and employers throughout the programme.

How do you spend your time outside work?

In my free time I enjoy the gym, spending time with my family, reading and watching films.  At the weekend my husband and I enjoy concerts and attend as many as we can. We also love visiting Liverpool for the bars, atmosphere and live music.
