New training resources for Not Just Lab Coats Ambassadors are now available, covering how to engage and inspire young people, building an impactful careers outreach session, networking to share experiences, and much more.
Ambassadors conduct a range of careers outreach to encourage young people to consider a career in science, manufacturing and technology.
Our fully-training Ambassadors work with young people, parents, teachers and careers advisers to promote the range of careers available. They visit schools and colleges to present working in the science-based industries in a positive light; dispelling myths and stereotypes.
More than 1,000 Ambassadors have been trained at science-based employers around the UK. The new content which supports their work has been developed in collaboration with employers to reflect the real needs in workplaces and different parts of the science sector around the country, supported by the hard work of the Careers Taskforce.
The Ambassadors are part of the wider work of Not Just Lab Coats network, which gives young people one place to explore career options – including job profiles, advice and guidance along every step of their career journey, and real examples of what a career in the sector looks like.
Ambassadors who have recently been through the training said the new resources were “very easy to navigate” and “really useful and make designing sessions quicker and easier”.
SIP Taskforce Member, Maddie O’Dell, said: “These resources are fantastic materials to inspire young people and showcase the opportunities in STEM. The activities are all researched and planned with interactivity and talking points so Ambassadors can tailor their sessions to best support the needs of students. I’m really proud of these materials and excited for trainees to start using them.”
Cogent Skills Careers Manager, Rachel Brickell, said: “Thanks so much to everyone on the Taskforce who has worked so hard on these new resources. The fact that they have ben developed by the industry, for the industry, makes them so valuable.”
“I’m confident they will become an important tool in helping share the range of exciting careers open across science-based employers.”
