On the 2nd October 2019 we hosted one of our much sought after (and free!) breakfast events; one of a series of interactive workshops featuring guest speakers from the Health & Safety Executive and the Environment Agency. The early risers came to join us for coffee and bacon butties in a relaxed, supportive and professional atmosphere at the Holiday Inn, Runcorn.
Cogent Skills is a not for profit organisation, and our core purpose is to support skills development in life science and industrial science businesses. We will be hosting more of these free events for employers operating within major hazard industries; encouraging them to adopt our Process Safety Management training standards, sharing information on how to develop best practice in Competence Management and get the most out of our high quality PSM courses.
This interactive workshop was delivered by Paul Wright, who has worked at the Environment Agency (a COMAH Competent Authority partner) for over 20 years. This was a was a rare opportunity for our attendees to understand their regulator by seeing their world through an inspector’s eyes.
The attendees enjoyed an hour presentation on major hazard leadership that looked at how directors and senior managers engage their board members, and how the influence and responsibilities of board members have the potential to directly impact on the health and safety performance of a business.
The final part of the workshop was facilitated by our Head of Workforce Development Neil Smith, encouraging participants to share their own experiences and good practice, or to seek advice on how they can influence their senior executives’ approach to Major Hazard Leadership. These lively discussions highlighted many issues that could be resolved with the help and support of Cogent Skills and the adoption of the PSM training standards.
Our next event in Darlington on 7th November 2019 is fully booked. To find out where and when future breakfast events will be held, and to register your interest please contact [email protected]
