TECHNICIAN SCIENTIST

LEVEL 5 (ST0597)

The Level 5 Technician Scientist standard is designed for apprentices seeking a career working in a laboratory, undertaking investigations and basic scientific experimentation using a range of techniques.

Level: LEVEL 5

Duration: Typically 36 months

Funding Band: £20,000

Entry Requirements:

Individual employers will set the selection criteria for their Apprenticeships

Working across the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology services sectors, Technician Scientists carry out routine lines of enquiry, development or investigation. They take responsibility for the quality of their work, often under highly regulated conditions, and can critically evaluate and problem solve. The standard is made up of knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Typically, the training period will last around 36 months, where the learning is focused on ensuring the apprentice acquires the knowledge, skills and behaviours, as set out by the standard. Apprentices must also achieve a Higher National Diploma or a Foundation Degree qualification, in a relevant science or technology discipline, relevant to their role.

Completion of this standard warrants application to the Science Council for RSci (Registered Scientist) status.

Knowing that your apprentice is on track is important and that is why SIAS offers its highly regarded Tracker document and Competence Evaluation Log that gives both the apprentice and employer confidence as the learning progresses.

Guidance materials and individual support for training providers, apprentices and employers are provided throughout the on-programme learning. We also deliver a number of events and webinars to advise and guide across the range of apprenticeships we assess.
